A female torso mannequin is the working form for tops, knitwear, dresses and jackets, where the garment is judged on bust and waist shape rather than full-length proportion. Torso depth and shoulder width are specified per program, with or without articulated wooden arms for sleeve and layering work.
Because torso forms sit on counters, shelves and compact fixtures, the mount matters as much as the body: a stand for adjustable height, a flat base for table display, or a hanging fitting for rail and window schemes. Linen, velvet and cotton covers are stitched by hand so the surface stays clean where a garment is pinned and re-pinned.
